Birds of Passage is the brainchild of Henry Beylen, longtime wine director of Gjelina restaurant in Venice, CA. His goal is to make delicious and refreshing natural wines from organically farmed vineyards in Santa Barbara County. The wines are made with the assistance of Peter Hunken and Amy Christine MW at their winery Holus Bolus in Lompoc, CA.
Grapes: Refosco (A grape that is not widely planted in northern Italy and certainly not widely planted in California.)
Region: Santa Maria Valley, CA
Vinification: The grapes are grown at Tres Hermanas vineyard in Santa Maria Valley. Aged in stainless steel and neutral oak for six months before bottling. Unfined/Unfiltered.
Sulfites: low addition at bottling
Total Production: 95 cases
Tasting Notes: It makes a light and refreshing rosé with lovely acidity and moderate alcohol.
